2024.5.29 Wai Ji 45th Anniversary Sports Days
The Wai Ji 45th Anniversary Sports Day was held on 29 May 2024, at the Sham Shui Po Sports Ground. Grateful for God's guidance in blessing us with beautiful weather. A total of 89 events were held on the day, with 289 athletes participating to create a lively atmosphere on site.
We would like to extend our special thanks to Ms. Elaine Wu, Executive Director of the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee, Mr. So Wa Wai, BBS, MH, and Mr. Yu Wai Yip, District Social Welfare Officer (Sham Shui Po) of the Social Welfare Department, for officiating the opening and closing ceremonies, adding significant meaning to the event. Thanks again to all participating service users and their families, volunteer groups, and staff for their dedicated effort in making the day smooth.
In celebration of Wai Ji's 45th anniversary, we specially organized a "3 km Race," with the champions and runners-up from each group representing Wai Ji in competitions abroad. This opportunity allows them to broaden their horizons by competing with long-distance runners from overseas. Apart from this, the cheerleading performances with powerful music and dance from service units drew cheers from the audience, showcasing vibrance and energy.
In recent years, Wai Ji has been actively promoting sports. We specially arranged a therapy team to conduct assessments for service users before the competitions and grouped them according to their abilities to enhance the competitiveness of the events. Additionally, an electronic system was utilized to record competition results for the sports day. The data collected will be used for future planning of fitness and sports development programmes, providing more diverse and professional support for our service users in the long term.
