2024.6.5 Press Conference on launch of Sex Education Teaching Programme for Youth on the Autism Spectrum

The Agency collaborated with the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong to launch the teaching kit of the Sex Education Teaching Programme for Youth on the Autism Spectrum. A multidisciplinary team composed of clinical psychologists, speech therapists and social workers jointly designed the content of the teaching kit. Tailored to the characteristics and needs of youth on the autism spectrum, simple, engaging and relatable social flashcards and quizzes are designed to teach them to read others' ideas, feelings, expectations, and some hidden social norms in different social situations. This enhances their social cognitive and responsive abilities and improves their friendship and intimate relationship handling skills.

The kit was officially launched at a press conference on 5 June 2024, receiving positive feedback from the industry. To promote and facilitate its application, the team will conduct teaching workshops for professionals and families to enhance understanding of the learning needs in social skills of individuals on the autism spectrum and provide appropriate support and assistance.

We expect this teaching kit will enrich the existing teaching tools in the education and social welfare sectors, and encourage the public to provide opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to practice different social situations, helping them enhance their social skills and enrich their social networks.
