Training Workshop: Workshop on Voluntary Work Skills

Description:

  • Getting the participants to know the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of carers of people with intellectual disabilities
  • Teaching the participants skills for voluntary work with carers of people with intellectual disabilities , such as talking to them and making a visit to them
  • Building a volunteer support network to provide suitable support to carers of people with intellectual disabilities

Duration: 3 hours per session (no. of sessions and duration of each session can be negotiated)

No. of participants: 15-20
Fee: Nil

*The participants will be admitted as volunteers of the support service project for carers of people with intellectual disabilities upon completion of this voluntary work training. Any parties interested in getting this training please contact us for the details.

 

 

Contents of the Volunteer Service:
Visits to Carers Apart from the visits to carers by staff, volunteers are encouraged to visit carers and accompany them to a medical consultation with the staff concerned being informed.
Mass Programmes Volunteers will help organize mass programmes and/or provide company to people with intellectual disabilities and their carers in mass programmes.
Spiritual Care for Carers Volunteers will accompany carers to attend religious gatherings so as to facilitate them to put down their caregiving work in a comfortable environment and engage themselves in giving sharings and praying together.
Reunion Meetings for Volunteers A reunion meeting is held for volunteers every half year to provide them a chance to share their visits to carers and show their support for each other.

Targets for Recruitment:

(a) Carers of people with intellectual disabilities

People from the Evangelical Free Church of China Yan Fook Church

Aim: To act as companions of carers of people with intellectual disabilities, caring for their needs and giving them support.

Service:

The team make regular visits to needy families of people with intellectual disabilities and provide different kinds of support to them, including expressing care and concern, taking parents and their children with intellectual disabilities to a restaurant, helping children with intellectual disabilities to go home and see their old parents, accompanying carers to a medical consultation, etc. Besides, the team attend religious gatherings for carers to facilitate carers’ participation.

 

 

“Tomorrow is Another Day” Volunteer Team (Community Volunteers)
Date of Formation: May 2018
Targets for Recruitment: People from the community
Aim: To give care and support to carers of people with intellectual disabilities.
Service: The team take part in and assist with mass programmes. They also participate in visits to carers at festivals to provide care and support to them.

Service:  These volunteers take part in and assist with mass programmes. They also participate in visits to carers at festivals to provide care and support to them.
